Lubiana Kepaou learned the kora with me from her very beginnings, over the course of almost ten years. As she was already studying music, I had to adapt my teaching to allow her to progress fast and use it in her music. Using my method, I enabled her to progress much faster than she would have if she'd had to go through traditional teaching by simple imitation—and above all, adapted to her need to also be able to play Western music too.
Aba Kora, of Senegalese origin, was playing the kora when he contacted me and needed technical foundations to progress. Within a few months, thanks to his diligent practice and his gift for free improvisation, he progressed very rapidly and has since been performing publicly in Germany.
Laurent was already learning the kora when he contacted me, but like many students, he had a huge number of unfinished song fragments. After about a year of serious work, he was able to have several complete pieces in his repertoire, ready to play in public.
Why learn the kora with me?
1.I was trained in Africa by masters, trained by DialyMady Sissoko (official kora teacher of National Institute for Arts), and mentored by Toumani Diabaté. I played in Mali for a year with different bands live. I have a training in Indian music and experience in various traditions.
2. My aim is to make you independent on the kora as quickly as possible, taking you from beginner to advanced.
3.I teach you how to play the kora step by step, with a detailed and approved method.
4.I give you recordings and illustrations of what I teach, so that you can work through the material at your own pace once the course is over.
5.I don't play the game of having “secrets” that I only give to a few initiates, everything I know I share if your level allows it, what is not given is lost.
6.Coaching with me gives you a “finished product”, whether it's a complete piece, effective concepts that can be used immediately in your practice, or tools to help you progress every day.
My lessons are accompanied by course recordings or videos on which you can review the material at your own pace.
